Uber launches new insurance coverage for its drivers

If you work for a company as an independent contractor, you may not have a right to workers’ compensation. That doesn’t mean you can go without coverage of any kind, though, because if you do and get hurt, you may need to file a personal injury claim or rely on savings to get through the emergency. In some cases, those without any option for compensation find themselves struggling to pay medical bills or to cover their lost wages.

That’s why this news from Uber in California is so important. The company wanted to make sure that all drivers had the ability to be covered in the case of an injury, so they could get the medical care they needed. Additionally, the company wanted to make sure families weren’t left with nothing in the case of a worker’s death.

Uber has launched a new Driver Injury Protection insurance, which is good news for anyone who works there. This affordable program is offered through Aon and provides affordable insurance to drivers. The insurance specifically covers the medical and disability expenses caused by collisions, but it also provides survivor benefits to families of those who are killed.

Those who use this insurance are protected en route, during their trip and while online on the Uber app, giving them peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, they’ll be covered. The premium is charged per mile, which means that drivers who work less often have smaller premiums while those who work more are charged more in accordance with their work loads.

After an accident, the last thing you want to worry about is money. If you’re hurt or killed on the job, this kind of coverage is just one way you or your family can seek compensation.
